EXCLUSIVE: Mattress Mack Discusses Potential $75M Astros Payday

It’s going to be a great week for Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale.

The Houston native and mattress store owner is also a renowned sports bettor and is due to make a ridiculous $75 million if his Astros win the World Series. Mack has a series of futures placed with various sports books, including a $1 million bet with WynnBET at 12/1 that would pay $12 million. The total payout would be the largest in the history of legalized sports betting for a single outcome.

Four wins against the Philadelphia Phillies is all that stands between Mack and his mega payday.

He’s made big bets before, but this has been his most notable. After five straight trips to the ALCS without a World Series win, Mack decided this was the season to go all in on his team.

“The Astros have been to the American League Championship Series the last five years and when they were 12/1 to win this year’s World Series on fabulous WynnBET, I couldn’t help myself but to bet $1 million on the Astros, hopefully returning $12 million.”

Houston is a resounding favorite at -215 on the series price, and the Astros are yet to lose a game in the playoffs after sweeping the Mariners in the ALDS and the Yankees in the ALCS. Still, Mack is wary of counting any chickens just yet as he referenced previous upsets at the expense of his Astros.

“They should have won the World Series (in 2019), but they lost to the Nationals because they were the hot team,” Mack told WynnBET on Tuesday morning. “The Astros were favored last year against the Braves and lost to them. So I’m certainly not overconfident because they have a great team and they’ve got a great chance to win this, reflected by the fact that they’re heavy favorites.”

But Mack has ensured himself of a lucrative week no matter the outcome of the World Series. As is the case with most of his big bets, Mack created a promo in his store to where a customer’s purchase is free if his bet cashes. It serves as insurance on his bet.

In this case, Mack has already sold $75 million in mattresses to the point where he had to shut down the promo a few days ago.

“If anyone at WynnBET is ready to give me 12/1 again, I’m ready to bet some more,” Mack joked.

Mack, an Astros season ticket holder, will be in his seats for Games 1 and 2 and a potential Game 7. He added that he’ll travel to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4 as well (Game 5 is up in the air due to another engagement).

Should the Astros win the World Series, Mack said he would want to spend the evening celebrating with his city before returning to work the next day. Of course, a Houston win would also mean thousands of happy customers who just scored a free mattress.

“Work is my therapy. That’s what I like to do,” Mack said. “I like to interact with customers, and if the Astros win this bet for the city it will be great because so many people will get their free furniture and they’ll be happy for a long, long time. It makes for a long, happy customer.”

Win or lose, Mack is undoubtedly a Houston icon who is revered by everyone in that city. He’ll join 41,000 of his closest friends at Minute Maid Park on Friday for Game 1 of the 2022 World Series.
