How the 2022 MLB All-Star Game Could End With a Home Run Derby

Baseball fans will have something to root for in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game.

According to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com, the game will be decided by a Home Run Derby if extra innings are needed. This is the first such year of this rule, but adds an interesting wrinkle to the 92nd edition of the Midsummer Classic.

If the score is all knotted up after nine innings of play, each manager will send out three hitters to compete in a Home Run Derby. Each manager will also select an All-Star coach to serve as the pitcher, as well as a bullpen catcher. The winner of the derby would be victorious in the All-Star Game.

Both managers have already decided on the hitters for this event, according to this story from The Athletic.

American League manager Dusty Baker has selected Ty France, Julio Rodriguez and Kyle Tucker for his three hitters. Rodriguez hit plenty of bombs during his runner-up finish in Monday’s Home Run Derby, so it would be great to see an encore performance from the American League Rookie of the Year frontrunner.

National League manager Brian Snitker has chosen Pete Alonso, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Kyle Schwarber. We saw all three of those hitters in last night’s Home Run Derby, and would probably have the edge since Alonso has won two of the last three derby competitions.

You can bet on this taking place tonight with a special market listed under the main page of your WynnBET account. The All-Star Game going to extra innings is priced at +600, while “no” in this two-way market is the favorite at -800.

As for the total, if the game were to end in a 4-4 tie after nine innings, WynnBET will grade out tickets as the official final score provided by MLB.
