Best Bet

The buzz has not been favorable for rookie wide receiver Treylon Burks so far this offseason. There were recent reports about the first-round rookie practicing with the second and third-string offenses, and he was listed as a reserve on a recent depth chart for the Tennessee Titans.

But we have seen this story before.

This time last year, Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase had an issue with drops and he went on to become the first receiver to win the OROY award since Odell Beckham Jr. did so in 2014. Chase started every game, recording 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns. The year before that, Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson didn’t even crack the starting rotation to start the season.

Recent history would suggest not putting too much stock in the preseason noise, which is why I like Burks’ price of +1000 to win OROY. Burks is still primed to be Tennessee’s best receiver as a rookie after being drafted in the first round following the trade of AJ Brown.

During his final season at Arkansas, Burks caught 66 passes for 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns. In a year where it might be tough for a quarterback to win this award, Burks seems like the best bet for immediate production.
