2023 NFC Championship Odds Entering Preseason

The NFC figures to be pretty wide open this year.

While a few familiar franchises are the clear favorites, don’t be surprised if we see a squad come out of nowhere to win the NFC similar to what the Cincinnati Bengals did last year in the AFC. But who will have the chance to do so?

Let’s find out by taking a look at the betting odds at WynnBET’s online sportsbook as of early August.

One Team That Stood Out

The 2021-22 NFL season was so bizarre, and featured few elite teams, that the San Francisco 49ers, who needed to win a Week 18 game to even make the playoffs, were just one half away from being favored in the Super Bowl.

San Francisco squandered a halftime lead in a 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game. It marked the second time in the last three years that the 49ers made the NFC Championship game after losing the Super Bowl in 2020.

The reason why a price of +1000 for San Francisco to win the NFC is so appealing is because there is some new upside with this team.

Second-year quarterback Trey Lance will take over as the starting quarterback, something bettors have been assuming for quite some time. Lance, who is currently listed at 35/1 to win MVP, is WynnBET’s biggest liability in that market.

Lance appeared in six games (two starts) during his rookie season for the 49ers. He completed 41-of-71 passes for 603 yards to go along with five touchdowns and two interceptions. Lance added 168 yards and one score on 38 attempts, as he projects to be one of the better running quarterbacks in the league.

There could be growing pains at first, but there is no question that Lance has an ideal situation in his first full season as a starting quarterback. Using betting all odds for the entire upcoming NFL season, the 49ers are currently favored in 13 games. Market power ratings based on those betting lines has San Francisco as the sixth-best team in the league.

San Francisco still has an extremely high floor coming off a double-digit win season, in which the team ranked sixth in total DVOA via Football Outsiders. But, if Lance is good, the 49ers are capable of being a contender in a weak NFC.
