Three Candidates to Consider for OPOY
Of all the favorites, I like Minnesota receiver Justin Jefferson the most with his price of +1600. This award has recently gone to the best non-quarterback in the league, and Jefferson is primed for a big year under first-year head coach Kevin O’Connell. Jefferson would be my pick to win, but here are three options further down the board for you to consider.
Lamar Jackson (+2500) — While the award has been given to the best non-quarterback of late, there have been six different signal callers to win OPOY since 2010. This price is better than Jackson’s MVP odds of +2000, and it seems fitting he’d win OPOY with another big year, given critics claim he isn’t a true quarterback. With a potential contract looming, look for Jackson to make a statement on the field in 2022.
Ja’Marr Chase (+3000) — Staying in the AFC North, it is easy to like Chase’s chances of being a contender for this award. The talented receiver had an impressive rookie season for the Bengals, recording 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns. There is always a chance that quarterback Joe Burrow steals some of the spotlight, assuming the duo lights it up again in 2022. But Chase might deserve some kind of recognition, especially if he continues to look unstoppable during his sophomore season.
Aaron Jones (+5000) — Derrick Henry and Jones are the only two players with 4,000 scrimmage yards and over 40 touchdowns over the last three years. The former won OPOY in 2020, but the latter seems like a reasonable long-shot option this season. Aaron Rodgers’ supporting cast has been depleted since Green Bay traded away Davante Adams. Jones, a running back with receiving prowess, seems like the obvious candidate to step up in Adams’ absence.
