2023 MLB Season Futures: Best Bets to Win the NL MVP Award

The 2023 MLB season is still young, but races are already starting to heat up.

While it might be too early to focus on any division races, the award markets have begun to take shape as we approach the 20-game mark in a 162-game season.

In the National League, Paul Goldschmidt won this award last year and is now somehow outside the top-five in this year’s market at WynnBET. In fact, nobody in the top five on the oddsboard even made the top 10 on the voting list in last year’s race.

Does that open the door for long shots? Or will a young superstar claim the MVP award this year? Let’s break it down, using WynnBET’s latest betting odds for the NL MVP market.

Best bets to win NL MVP

Ronald Acuna Jr. (+500)

The Atlanta Braves are the World Series favorites at WynnBET with a price of +650 to win it all. They have the best record in the National League, leading the NL East division with a 13-4 overall record. Whenever a team is playing that well, you have to look at the roster to identify an MVP candidate.

Ronald Acuna Jr. is a deserving favorite early in the season for Atlanta. To this point, he is leading the NL in WAR (1.3), posting a betting average of .389 to go along with .463 on-base percentage and a .583 slugging percentage. Acuna has hit three home runs, delivered 11 RBIs and recorded seven stolen bases.

Acuna has never finished higher than fifth in MVP voting, and there is risk in betting on the favorite. We would recommend monitoring his price this summer, and buying any sort of dip when the time comes.

Pete Alonso (+1200)

Are we getting the sequel we never knew we needed? In 2022, Aaron Judge led the league in home runs en route to capturing the AL MVP award. It made too much sense to pick the New York slugger in a year where the Yankees won an extremely competitive AL East division.

Pete Alonso of the New York Mets now leads all of baseball in home runs through the early part of the season. He has eight home runs, sharing the lead with Patrick Wisdom of the Chicago Cubs. Alonso is hitting .292 with a .387 on-base percentage, recording 15 RBIs in the process for good measure.

Assuming Alonso keeps crushing baseballs, the Mets will remain in the thick of a competitive NL East race. They are currently two games back of the Atlanta Braves with an 11-6 record, but Alonso will emerge as a serious contender if they end up taking over the top spot.
