The month of August is here, and you know what that means? FOOTBALL! We are a few days away from the Hall Of Fame game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, it won’t be the most entertaining game of the season but hey it’s football and we get to watch! Fans and bettors are knee-deep in their research for the NFL season and reading through NFL Team Previews.
Which teams made the biggest moves? Which teams will regress? Which teams who missed the playoff last year, will make it this year? Sports Gambling Podcast Network is doing a preview on all 32 teams this year, so make sure to check that out. Below I will highlight my two best bets for the 2022-23 NFL season.
Baltimore Ravens Over 9.5 Wins
The Baltimore Ravens come into this season with one significant improvement: health. Last season, before the season even started, the Ravens running back lost J.K Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Marcus Peters. Further, franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson missed the final five games of the season due to an ankle injury. Additionally, the Ravens lost tackle Ronnie Stanley along the way.
The Ravens will get those players back early in the season, but Lamar Jackson will be ready to go in NFL Week 1. Lamar Jackson is in a contract year and I expect him to perform at an MVP level for the Ravens.
Further, the Ravens have the 11th-easiest schedule in the 2022-2023 NFL season. Before Lamar Jackson’s season came to halt with the ankle injury, the Ravens were 8-3. The final six games of the season included three division games which they all lost. Lastly, the Ravens were 1-5 in the division, and I expect that to improve this upcoming season.
Indianapolis Colts Over 10 Wins
The Indianapolis Colts come into the season with a new quarterback in former NFL MVP and Falcons quarterback, Matt Ryan. Last season, the Colts ended the season going 9-8. The Colts started the season 0-3 and lost the final two games of the season to the Raiders and the Jaguars. The biggest upgrade comes at the quarterback position for the Colts. Last season, Carson Wentz had moments that made you scratch your head, especially in the red zone.
Furthermore, Carson Wentz’s accuracy was a huge issue last season. In fact, he ranked among the bottom of qualifying quarterbacks in overall accuracy and deep passes. Now, the Colts bring Matt Ryan who is the better decision maker and accuracy is a significant improvement over Wentz. Let’s not forget the Colts have the league’s rushing leader from last season in their backfield in Jonathan Taylor.
The Colts added Yannick Ngakoue to the roster alongside Shaquille Leonard to make this pass rush lethal. Lastly, the Colts have the third-easiest schedule in the 2022-2023 season. The Colts play in a division where they face the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Can Matt Ryan change the fortunes for the Colts who have not won a regular-season game in Jacksonville since the 2015 season? This is the make-or-break year for the Colts. There is plenty to like on both sides of the football and playing in a weak division I believe the Colts can win 11 games.
