Best Bets This July 4th Weekend
USFL Championship: Pittsburgh Maulers vs. Birmingham Stallions
When to Watch: Saturday, Jul 1, 2023, 08:00 PM ET
Stadium: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium
The Stallions are by far the best team in the USFL, which will be displayed in the championship against the Maulers. The Maulers have quarterback Alex McGough who leads the league in passing touchdowns with 20 and has hooked up with tight end Jace Sternberger 7 times. The Maulers have the best defense in terms of points allowed, but the Stallions have the third-best while possessing the best offense.
Sunday Night Baseball: New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants
When to Watch: Sunday, Jul 2, 2023, 07:10 PM ET
Stadium: Citi Field
While the Mets are 17 games back in the NL East, the Giants have a realistic shot at winning the NL West for the first time since 2021. David Peterson is set to be on the mound for the Giants, and this season, he’s 2-6 with a 7.00 ERA across 45 innings. The starter is unknown for the Giants, but this series should hopefully help them pick up a game or so on the Diamondbacks.
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
When to Watch: Tuesday, Jul 4, 2023, 10:45 AM ET and 12:00 PM ET
Where: Coney Island
Taking place on the Fourth of July in the earlier hours of the morning, we’ll get the hot dog eating contest that’s taken place at Coney Island each year since 1972. Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo are considered top competitors in the male and female ranks. Chestnut has won 15 of the last 16 contests, and Sudo has downed over 40 hot dogs here before.
CONCACAF Gold Cup
When to Watch: Saturday, Jul 1, 2023 and Sunday, Jul 2, 2023. Various kick off times
Stadium: Various
Viewed as one of the best competitions in the CONCACAF region, the Gold Cup is a qualifying tournament for the FIFA Confederations Cup as the winner automatically earns a spot. On July 2 at 7:00 PM ET, the United States will take on Trinidad and Tobago, and come into the game after a 6-0 win over Saint Kitts and Nevis.
UFC Fight Night: Strickland vs. Magomedov
When to Watch: Saturday, Jul 1, 2023, 07:00 PM ET
Arena: UFC Apex
Sean Strickland and Abu Magomedov will square off in the main event of this Fight Night. Magomedov has only been in one UFC fight, while Stickland has become a top middleweight at No. 7 overall. A loss here would be catastrophic to his momentum.
Tour de France
When to Watch: Saturday, Jul 1, 2023, 06:30 AM ET
Where: Location changes each day
The Tour de France, the 21-stage, 23-day cycling event, begins on July 1 and will run through July 23.
