2023 College Football Win Totals: Betting Odds, Best Bet and Predictions for the Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off a season in which they lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 42-41 in the Peach Bowl. However, the Buckeyes team heading into 2023-24 college football season has a new look.

In 2023, the Buckeyes will be without key players like C.J. Stroud, Paris Johnson Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and others, but that doesn’t mean their performance is bound to diminish.

Below, we’ll look at some futures bets for the Buckeyes, including win total and scoring average.

Ohio State Buckeyes Win Total

  • Over 10.5 wins (-120)

  • Under 10.5 wins (+100)

As mentioned, the team is without many productive players from last season, including a top NFL draft pick in Stroud, the team’s starting quarterback.

Now, the team turns the reins over to Kyle McCord, a junior, who’s the assumed starter this season. Throughout college, McCord has only appeared in enough games to toss 58 passes. With those 58 passes, McCord has completed 41 for 600 yards.

The scouting report on him deems him an accurate passer, and 41-of-58, which is close to 71%, shows that. He’s also six-foot-three, so he can stand confidently in the pocket, which will help deliver passes to his top receivers and likely first-round draft picks, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka.

Suppose McCord can continue to be an accurate passer with these receivers, along with a backfield that includes Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson. In that case, there should be a lot of offensive production.

There’s still some exciting talent on defense, including three redshirt sophomores in JT Tuimoloau, Michael Hall Jr., and Jack Sawyer. There’s also plenty of experienced talent in the second, with Lathan Ransom, Josh Proctor, and Cameron Martinez.

If the offensive line can hold its own against top competition and McCord can step into a role that is a quarterback dream, the Buckeyes will again be more than fine in 2023.

Ohio State Buckeyes Regular Season Points Per Game

  • Over 41.2 points per game (-110)

  • Under 41.2 points per game (-110)

Last season, the Buckeyes were second in the country, only behind Tennessee by 0.3 points per game (PPG), scoring 44.2 PPG on average.

With so many changes to the team, we see that total now drop to 41.2 PPG, which would still be good enough for sixth in the league.

Stroud was a top NFL draft pick for a reason. While the team around McCord is still strong and includes many of the same core players, we have to debate the switch to McCord and what that can look like offensively.

Based on the roster, the Buckeyes should still be a top-scoring offense, but turning things over to a quarterback with relatively little experience and asking him to run an offense that scores 41+ points per game is a bit too difficult to commit to the over, but the under also doesn’t seem like the right way to go.

Ohio State Buckeyes Best Bet

While we’re unsure of the best way to go with the scoring average, the Buckeyes are a team that should easily win 11 games or more. Really, at this point, the only questionable game on the schedule each season for the team is Michigan, but even with a new start, things will be OK thanks to the quality of weapons on offense and the lingering talent on defense.

The Buckeyes will still be a top team in college football, winning the Big Ten, and competing for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
