What is going on with Baker Mayfield? | Upsets & Underdogs

The 20th episode of Upsets & Underdogs dropped first thing Tuesday morning, and it covered all things from Week 8 of the NFL season.

Will Blackmon and Nick Dais recapped the biggest moments from this past weekend’s action, including the New Orleans Saints’ massive upset of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and how the Green Bay Packers knocked off undefeated Arizona Cardinals to set the tone for the week.

Blackmon and Dais also looked back on all their picks, but make sure to check out Thursday’s show for their favorite picks before they happen.

What is going on with Baker Mayfield?

The biggest segment of the show occurred between the 12-minute mark and the 19-minute mark of the show.

Blackmon and Dais spent that time discussing the second-biggest upset of the weekend, which was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 15-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Cleveland closed as a five-point favorite before losing outright by that same number at home.

The Browns, who started to become a trendy team after their playoff victory over the Steelers last January, are now 4-4 on the year. That mark puts them last in the AFC North, with the Baltimore Ravens leading the way at 5-2.

It doesn’t mean that Cleveland’s season is over, but it does make it more difficult. Cleveland is +550 to win the AFC North, which is third in the division. The Browns are +1200 to win the AFC in WynnBET’s latest odds.

As is usually the case, the conversation around the Browns’ recent struggles have revolved around the quarterback position. Blackmon and Dais had a lengthy discussion about whether or not Baker Mayfield is the guy for this team.

Blackmon still believes in Mayfield, but he thinks the pressure is getting to the talented QB and Mayfield just needs to play with a more free mindset. Dais, meanwhile, argued that Mayfield might not be the team’s best option at the position.

For the season, Mayfield has a 3-4 record while completing 66.7% of his passes. He has thrown for 1,699 passing yards along with six touchdowns and three interceptions. There is still time for Mayfield to turn his season around, but it has happen soon if the Browns have any hope of making the playoffs in a muddled AFC.

Cleveland will travel to Cincinnati this week, and is currently listed as a three-point underdog in that matchup at WynnBET. The Brown then have a road meeting with the New England Patriots, but a 2-0 clip in that stretch could really bode well for postseason seeding.
