The 2023-24 college football season is just around the corner, and pretty soon our Saturdays will have purpose again.
After back-to-back national championships, Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs are hoping to become the first three-peat champ since Minnesota accomplished this feat in the 1930s. Georgia is the betting favorite to do just that at WynnBET.com’s online sportsbook.
While we all might witness history this year, that shouldn’t take away from what will be an exciting college football regular season from start to finish. Let’s get into all the key dates you need to know for the upcoming campaign.
When Does College Football Start In 2023?
As is usually the case, Week 0 will serve as the official start of the college football season. This year, those games will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26, starting with a much-anticipated matchup between Navy and Notre Dame in Dublin, Ireland.
Only a select number of teams will be in action during Week 0, while the majority of college football programs will begin their respective campaigns the following weekend in Week 1.
Week 0 Schedule
While the football season typically begins on Labor Day weekend, the NCAA started awarding waivers for games to be played a week earlier back in 2002. The original intent was to grant teams that play a game in Hawaii an extra regular-season home game to offset travel costs.
This year, 14 different teams will kick off the new season for us during an interesting Week 0 slate on Saturday, Aug. 26.

As for the marquee matchups, football fans will want to tune in Thursday evening when Utah attempts to avenge last year’s Week 1 loss against Florida. The TCU Horned Frogs, who are fresh off a national title game appearance, will face Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes for one of the biggest games on Saturday’s slate.
On Sunday, a showdown between LSU and Florida State will take center stage in Orlando, Florida. Both teams enter the year with high expectations, so a Week 1 win will be crucial to success.
