One team’s misfortune is another team’s fortune.
Before Saturday, Ohio State was 9-0 all-time against Oregon. The most recent meeting between the two teams was the 2015 National Championship game when the Buckeyes pounded them 42-20.
As you would expect, Ohio State’s loss caused its National Championship odds to take a significant hit. The Buckeyes dropped from +650 to +1500 on the odds list. As you would also expect, Oregon saw its odds to win it all take a significant leap in the right direction but at +3000, the Ducks are still behind the Buckeyes despite the win.
Oregon wasn’t the only team that saw its odds become more favorable due to the outcome of the game. Alabama, Oklahoma, and Georgia, the three teams who sit atop the odds list, saw their odds become shorter is one of their top competitors in Ohio State may have had their National Championship hopes dashed.
Alabama is now the +180 favorite with Georgia (+320) and Oklahoma (+650) close behind.
Oklahoma’s odds fell after its Week 1 close call with Tulane, but after smashing Western Carolina 76-0, the Sooners have reestablished themselves as one of the top favorites to win the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State will have to win the rest of its regular season games if they want any hope of getting into the playoff at the end of the regular season.
The Buckeyes are still favored (-125) to win the Big 10.
